Former Arsenal Star Nigel Winterburn Sends Euro 2020 Transfer Warning To Edu And Mikel Arteta
1 min read
Nigel Winterburn has warned both Edu and Mikel Arteta against signing a player that has shone at Euro 2020. Arsenal have been linked with a host of new players this summer, as Arteta prepares for a big rebuild ahead of the 2020/21 season. The likes of Alexander Isak and Manuel Locatelli have both been linked with a move to the Gunners in recent weeks, although the former has just penned a new long-term contract at Real Sociedad. Both of these stars are prime examples of players whose talents have been showcased on a global stage that attracts interest from top European clubs, despite both having an impressive season for their respective clubs coming into the tournament. This is something that Winterburn is “Weary” of and has sent a big warning to his former club about making any rash decisions this summer. “I think we’ve been linked with a few players at this tournament already, but I’m always weary of these situations,” Winterburn said to NetBet. “Just because a player is performing well in a tournament doesn’t mean they’ll be a good addition.” London understands that Arteta and Edu are set for a huge squad overhaul this summer, with a number of positions being identified that need improvement in the coming months.
Hector Bellerin has been subject to a great deal of transfer speculation over the last few months and has been linked to several of Europe’s top clubs, including Inter Milan. Bellerin opted to stay with the Gunners and remained the undisputed right-back option for much of last season amid a battle with Cedric Soares and later with Calum Chambers. Arsenal are willing to let him go for the right price this time around, but after what the Nerazzurri’s chief executive said about a potential deal, a move to the Serie A champions is looking unlikely. “Speaking to FC Inter news, via HITC, Giuseppe Marotta said:”We will act with peace of mind. Even with a move to Inter unlikely, Arsenal seem to have already replaced Bellerin – not in the literal sense, but they have hinted that someone else is likely to wear the Arsenal captain’s armband when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is unfit or not playing. The vice-captain role is one that the right-back has been in for two seasons, but with Granit Xhaka likely to leave, in addition to the fact David Luiz has already left, Arsenal’s leadership group is likely to halve before the start of next season, and selling Bellerin frees up another space as Aubameyang’s understudy.
Compares Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has compared England and Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling to ex-Arsenal forward Lucas Podolski. Sterling, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, has three goals from the four games so far, despite not being a regular feature in Pep Guardiola’s team this season. “Lukas Podolski could be a little bit like that. He would not be in the Arsenal team or maybe going through a quiet period for his club, but then he would go to the national team and be a very important player for Germany.” Kane scored 23 Premier League goals in 35 matches in the 2020/21 season but had no goals at Euro 2020 until Tuesday evening. Former Arsenal star Fabregas has spoken about how important that goal against Germany could be for the Tottenham striker and more importantly England’s chances going in the latter stages of the competition. “Fabregas admitted:”His goal for England against Germany will not only give Kane confidence, but it will give his team a lot of confidence as well that they can now reach the final of the Euros. Despite having a better goals to game ratio in a Tottenham shirt than Podolski managed at Arsenal, that all important header against Germany could prove significant like Fabregas mentioned to England’s chances of winning Euro 2020..
Arsenal are faltering in their attempts to sell winger Willian this transfer window, with his wage demands putting clubs off a potential transfer. Willian, 32, signed for the Gunners on a free transfer from London rivals Chelsea last summer, and has since struggled to make the desired impact in Mikel Arteta’s team. With another winger being potential brought into the club this summer in Arteta’s shake up of the squad, Willian is likely to become surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium. Willian will have no shortage of options out there should he decide to move on, but not many clubs would be willing to pay the hefty wage demands of the Brazilian. Arteta signed Willian to add much needed experience to his young squad, but a lack of goals and a lack of good performances are the reason why the 31-year-old has been been frozen out of the starting eleven. A total of 8 goal involvements in 35 appearances this season in all competitions has not been sufficient and the Gunners manager has reflected on the difficulties Willian has experienced in his first season at the club. The likes of Granit Xhaka, David Luiz, Bernd Leno, and Hector Bellerin could be shown the exit door this summer at the Emirates stadium, and Willian may be hoping to join them in an attempt to secure more first team football for next season.
Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is attracting interest from a host of teams in the Premier League and Bundesliga, football. Nketiah was offered a contract extension in order to protect his market value, although that has yet to be signed as interest mounts up from the UK and abroad. Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are among the clubs monitoring Nketiah’s situation, as are Augsburg who have former West Ham defender Reece Oxford on their books. The Hammers are also interested in Nketiah along with Premier League newboys Watford. Back in March, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was asked about the lack of first team opportunities for Nketiah. “It hurts as well because of how Eddie [Nketiah] behaves and trains every day and because he’s a player from our academy, but he will have his chance,” Arteta said. Arteta previously spoke in January about Nketiah’s lack of minutes, but compared him to other strikers his age around Europe and suggested that he was on the right track. With Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun both ahead of the striker in the pecking order at Emirates Stadium, a summer move beckons for the Hale End academy graduate.
Arsenal’s Ainsley MaitlandNiles is “Unhurt” after being involved in a serious traffic incident, football. Since making his firstteam debut in 2014 aged just 17, the Hale End graduate has gone on to make more than 100 senior appearances for Arsenal. MaitlandNiles has now returned to Arsenal but admitted that he has not spoken to Edu of Arteta about his future and would be open to a permanent move away from the Emirates this summer. “I want a decision. I want some clarity. And then hopefully I can get to work with whoever I need to get to work with. Whether that is finding a new club or whether that is carrying on with my training.” Create an account here in just a few moments, so you can have your say on all things Arsenal, join the debate and take part in exclusive Q&As as well. If it works out it works out, if it doesn’t then kiss Arsenal goodbye. “You know how the football world works.”

A second Serie A club have joined the race to sign Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka after an inspiring Euro 2020 campaign. Xhaka, who joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016 for £40 million, looked as if he was destined for an imminent move to AS Roma. Italian publication, Calciomercato reported that Xhaka has agreed personal terms with Jose Mourinho’s side despite the midfielder’s interest in a move to Juventus. Roma initially offered the Gunners €12 million plus €3 million in bonuses, however Arsenal have insisted that they want at least €20 million up front to sell Xhaka this summer. That’s because Juventus have entered the race to sign Xhaka with both parties interested in the move, despite the reported agreement with Roma. It is understood that Juventus are yet to submit an official bid for the midfielder, but Xhaka has since learned that Roma will not wait should he delay proceedings in hope of a move elsewhere.

Having guided the Purple and Whites through unprecedented times, Sambi Lokonga won the respect of Belgium National Team manager, Roberto Martinez. Should Lokonga swap Lotto Park for the Emirates Stadium, the deal is reported to cost Arsenal €17.5 million with potential add-ons raising the fee to €22 million, football. The midfielder has agreed personal terms with the Gunners, leaving just the medical to complete before the deal can be verified. Sambi Lokonga has a fairly clean injury record of late, however the Belgian endured a cruciate ligament rupture in December 2018 missing seven months of football.
